VA is for lovers, MD is for haters & DC is in between
Yeah, tried to come up with a witty title, and all I could get was "VA is for lovers, MD is for haters & DC is for the crazy". Then I realized not everyone likes being called crazy. I hope this title sounds more poetic.
Anyway, yesterday I had a fun trip to DC. After sleeping by Elan, we caught a train down to DC. We had to park in a church parking lot because the MARC's lot was full. When w were walking up, there was a train pulling off, and we ran up to it, but realized it was not our train.
In DC we met up with Joe, Chris, Ruthie, Tuua, Shilpa, Dan, and Angela at the Native American Smithsonian. Finding a troll in one of the exhibits was probably the most amusing thing that happened there. Except for me finding out that Honest Tea was actually a real thing, not just some ficticious thing Tuua made up. Who knew?
Next stop was the National Art Gallery. While Tuua looked for the Matisse exhibit, the rest of us admired various works of art, from "Mound of Cheese" to "Girl Reading". Our group split up, as Ruthie and Tuua wanted to check out more art, while Elan , Shilpa, Angela, Chris, Joe, Dan, and I would rather go to the National Aquarium.
On our way to the Aquarium, we went to the Washington Monument. It was not that far off our way, plus it was one of the sites that defined DC. While I was reluctant to walk on the grass there, Elan justified it by pointing out that little kids were running around on it, so it must be fine. The Monument was really tall, but tickets for the day had been sold out. We resumed our course to the aquarium.
We got the idea to visit the White House, which was really close to the aquarium. As we were reaching the back/front of the White House(Dan and Chris disagree about where we were exactly) a homeland security person shooed us away, saying that the White House was closed to the public today. We saw three black SUVs pull into the White House, so we decided to get back to walking to the aquarium.
We got to the aquarium at 3, only to find out that it was closing at 5. Deciding to keep our five bucks a peice, we headed to meet back up with Tuua and Ruthie. On our way back some of us got hot dogs, in fact Elan got a Ninja Turtle pop. We also saw the funcycle, an eight person cycle you could rent and use to tour DC. Too bad we had spent all our money except that for the trip home!
Eventually we met up with Tuua and Ruthie at the Capitol building. We took a brief tour of the fragrant botanical gardens. While Joe, Ruthie, and I hunted for orchids for Tuua, we realized that the girls had the wrong number for Collins. We all met back up and headed home.
Fun discussion on the ride home.
Hung out with Elan and 2E for half an hour.
Missed the crepe dinner by like 10 minutes.
Had a needed 14 hour sleep afterwards.
Lyric of the Day:
" You have found yourself
Trapped in this
Incomprehensible maze
Where’s your head at
Where’s your head at"
-Basement Jaxx:"Where's your head at"
Random Story of The Day:
So Tuua, Ruthie, Angela and I are sitting in a quad of seats on the train.
Tuua: Memoirs of a Geisha was terrible.
Ruthie: Lilly liked it.
Tuua: We ignore the things Lilly say.
Me: And Lilly is? Your friend from New York?
Tuua: No my neighbor. You should have met her at the party.
Me: I wasn't invited to the party...
Tuua: ...
Ruthie: Well this is awkward!
Also, as Elan was saying how this was the first time heate an ice cream cone without incident, he dropped it.
